Neuro_CT_Head: 69 M, altered mental status, left temporal and insular hypodensity.

CLINICAL HISTORY: 69-year-old male with left temporal lobe hypodensity on outside head CT, with several week history of altered mental status, concern for stroke and/or herpes encephalitis.
 
FINDINGS:
 
There is confluent hypodensity involving the medial left temporal lobe, insula, hippocampus, and inferolateral left frontal lobe with sparing of the basal ganglia.

There is no ventricular enlargement. No abnormal extra axial fluid 
collection is identified.

IMPRESSION:
 
1. Left temporal lobe, insula, and hippocampus hypodensity is concerning for herpes encephalitis.
