MRI BRAIN WITHOUT CONTRAST:
CLINICAL HISTORY: 22 years of age, Female, patient with history of
previous infarcts.
FINDINGS:
left temporal operculum, bilateral superior and medial frontal gyri, bilateral cingulate gyri, confluently within the left parietal lobe, and multiple punctate foci within the right occipital lobe. The currently affected areas are in different locations compared with the previous MRI. Several of the affected areas demonstrate mild edema.
Ventricles and extra-axial spaces: Stable.
IMPRESSION:
1. Multiple areas of restricted diffusion, some with mild edema in multiple vascular territories, areas affected on the current exam
differ from those on the prior. This is consistent with known diagnosis of MELAS. Exam is incomplete and can be repeated if requested.
